From Waste to Wardrobe: The Story Behind Stuart Trevor’s Sustainable Packaging
From Waste to Wardrobe: A Packaging Story by Stuart Trevor
A couple of years ago, Stuart was invited to speak at the Material Matters exhibition held at the Bargehouse in London. It was a space filled with innovation—designers, makers, and thinkers all exploring how materials can shape a better future.
That’s where he first came across the team behind BUYO Solutions.
He was immediately struck—not just by the materials themselves, but by the creativity and intent behind them. They were taking what the world considers waste and turning it into something purposeful, something beautifully designed. It stayed with him.
That moment sparked a collaboration.

Potato Sack Packaging
A biodegradable, reusable bag made from materials that would otherwise be thrown away.
Rethinking Packaging, the Stuart Trevor Way
He always believed packaging should feel considered—something with character that carries meaning and responsibility, not just something you throw away.
So we asked ourselves:
Why are we still wrapping conscious clothing in unconscious packaging !!
Made from Waste. Designed with Purpose
Our packaging brings together two natural waste-based materials: "bags are made from agriculture biowaste blended with bio-based polymers. They are biodegradable in the natural landfills at ambient temperature and do not leave behind any microplastics.
Overall, they are made out of beer spent grains, cassava pulp or cocoa husk blended with bio-based polymers. The biowaste which would otherwise have been discarded to the environment have been collected and upcycled into bags which can biodegrade in your courtyard and leave behind no microplastics and minimal carbon footprints on earth." For our outer packaging, He wanted to bring back an old-world charm. We created a potato sack-inspired design, complete with a blanket-stitched tape hem. It has a raw, honest aesthetic—something that feels both nostalgic and functional.
But it’s not just about looks.
These outer bags are made from recycled kraft paper in a double-wall construction, giving them the strength needed to protect garments during transit.
Inside, we took a different approach.
Stuart wanted the inner bag to feel familiar—like a simple supermarket shopping bag—but made with the most responsible materials possible. Working with BUYO Solutions, we developed bags made from recycled coffee grounds blended with biodegradable polymers. They protect the garments from moisture and dirt, while remaining fully compostable and free from microplastics.
Even the details matter. We use recycled kraft paper tape with a natural rubber gum—ensuring every component aligns with our sustainability goals.

A Collaboration Built on Purpose
Our partnership with BUYO Solutions has been key to bringing this vision to life.
They’ve worked closely with us to customise every element of the packaging—combining innovation, material science, and craftsmanship. Their ability to turn agricultural waste into functional, durable, and compostable materials has helped us move forward in our circularity journey.
This is what great collaboration looks like: shared values, bold ideas, and a willingness to rethink the norm.
Designed for More Than One Life
These bags are not just packaging—they’re designed to live on. Reuse them as shopping bags, storage, travel organisers, or even for plants. And when their life does come to an end, they return safely to the earth.
Why This Matters
The fashion industry has long relied on single-use plastic packaging—something that can take hundreds of years to break down.
We wanted to challenge that! By turning waste into resource, and design into purpose, we’re proving that even the smallest details—like packaging—can make a meaningful difference.
Fashion with a Lighter Footprint
At Stuart Trevor, every decision is part of a bigger story:
Clothes that last longer.
